Set up remote access from an iMac to your Thumbs Up

Download and install “Microsoft Remote Desktop” from the Mac App Store. The icon looks like this:

Open the app and you will see this screen

Click preferences this will open the preferences panel, click gateway on there

We now need to add the gateway settings, to start this click the + sign at the bottom left of the window then fill in the boxes on the right with the following details:

Gateway Name : Thumbs Up
Server: gateway.thumbsupuk.com
User name: Thumbsup\yourusername (usually either first name or firstname.surnaame, whatever you sign into the network with)
Password: your network or email password

Click the red x to close the preferences panel and now click new on the main remote desktop app window. This will open another settings window, complete this as follows:

Connection Name : Work/Thumbs Up (whatever friendly name you want to give it)
PC Name: yourpcname.thumbsup.lan (this name will be included on the main email these instructions were attached to or ask IT to confirm your PC name)
Gateway: Use the dropdown to select the Santok gateway you just set up
User name: Thumbsup\yourusername (as before)
Password: your network or email password

When you are finished it should look something like this (please note details in the screen shot show a Santok account)

When you are done, click the red x to close, you will now have a new connection showing under “My Desktops”. Double click on this and will launch the remote session. You may see a certificate warning error like this.

If so click show certificate, tick the box next to always trust and then press continue. This will prevent it showing again in future.

After that you should then find yourself connected to your work PC desktop. For future use just open the remote desktop app and click on the connection under “My Desktops” to get back on.
